Red Snapper 6/6-6/7 2015

Postby bayoudude » Thu Jun 11, 2015 3:07 pm

Took advantage of the pathetic 10 day one weekend recreational red snapper season. Went out of Cocodrie LA both days and limited out within 30 minutes of arrival on Saturday and only manage 8 at a different location on Sunday. Still had a great trip and my boys got so see / help catch their first red snapper along with my brother in law that had never offshore fished before. He also got to see what a shark is capable of  There were so many fish on Saturday that they were following the hooked fish up to the surface. I could have caught hundreds of the endangered red snapper....

Nice box of ARS dude! I know what you mean about the "endangered" red snapper. We get 10 days. If you are a working stiff that pays all those fisheries guys salaries you get 2 days. Yeah that's fair.

Looks like you had a couple of young first mates in training along. That trip had to be a kids dream.

I see a flutter jig on the shark bait head. Did you catch them all on jigs?

I took some friends out before the ARS season closed and caught a few. As you can see the water was so rough we could hardly stand up. :)

Nice work! I notice the insulation on the lid of your fishbox.. Does it seem to improve ice holding?

The previous owner had installed the insulation and it appears that it does help. As to the jigs, we started using cut bait but i was catching larger fish on the jig so two of us started using those with great success. They were crushing the jig every drop it was a blast on heavy spinning tackle. Just wish I didn't have to make a 2 hr one way boat ride to limit out in under 30 minutes.... I was 35 miles out of the pass in 120 feet of water.

Nice catch of snapper. We here on the south east Atlantic coast have been given the news that because we caught too many red snapper last year( they know exactly how many we caught, don't ask me how) that we will have no days to fish for red snapper this year. I agree, we pay for this entire broken system, which we must change soon or they will force all of us off the water, which is there goal. High. Roller
