Kind of a late report but saturday we headed east from Rye, NH for a shark trip. Left the dock in the fog making for a slow ride. Eventually it lifted and we made pretty good time on the way out. About 8 miles from the bank a huge splash and lots of birds working near a dragger. We stopped to take a look but we weren't really ready for a tuna day so time to stick to the plan. We pulled onto the bank and started our power chum up to our spot. All was well until we discovered that we were drifting in the wrong direction. So now we have to decide if we're gonna start over or go with it. Lets go with it. So we start the drift. Well after about a half hour we get bit for the first time this year. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and it was on. First Blue of the day and Joe's (the new guy) shark. We boat him pretty quick and release him with a tag. So back to the waiting. After a short while they begin to show up. So I decide to try one out on spin gear and I'm off. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ just another little one about 5 feet or so but fun none the less on light gear. And from then we had constant company of blues around the boat for the remainder of the day. They weren't all that hungry but we were able to basically hand feed them, tag them in the slick and at the chum bucket, which became more and more popular, and touch them as they swam by. It was a really good day. Total tally, 6 landed, 4 tagged and one we were able to get some long line leader off of.
On the way in, we had a few chances at surface feeds but no love once again. We did see a pretty big one air out within 100 feet of the boat. It was a good day.
Oh and we had a big Mola come up right behind us to check us out for a few minutes then it was gone.
oh and sharks don't care for sluggos, weird?
