290CC Motor Well Drains Sticking

Postby one4water » Mon Jul 25, 2016 1:48 pm

I can't be the only one this happens too. The motor well drains are low to the water line and any time a wave or wake comes at me from behind, or I even reverse enough for water to hit them, they seal shut which is awesome. However, they get stuck closed all the time.

Stuck enough to not allow water to escape the wells. They end up filling up. Fortunately the seals on the access hatches are good but at some point, this could be an issue as these boats seem to always have water splashing into the wells.

So what's the fix for these?

Doesn't happen to me either. Replace your flaps.

I have cut my own from scrap rubber . Make sure to not tighten the screw fully. It needs to flex at the pivot point.
