Throttle Cable Adjustment, Honda 225

Postby v70catboat on Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:55 am

I have twin 225's and the throttle positions ( at cruise) are different and I am looking to adjust them but don't know what to do?

The throttle lengths can be adjusted at the engine or inside the binnacle. I suggest that you try the cable ends inside the engine. Over time they will get out of alignment as each cable will stretch differently.
Very Respectfully,

Here is a post from Honda Dude a pro located in California It amplifies the details from the previous post.

First, make sure that the throttle linkage on the engines are in the same position. Put the throttles in neutral. look on top of the engine and check out the black cam follower. There will be a small arrow on it. make sure the roller arm is aligned with the arrow on both engines.

Now run the engines at the same rpm and note which throttle has to be pushed further to get the same rpm as the other motor. Now go back to the engine, disconnect the throttle cable and turn the cable connector clockwise a few turns and try running the boat again. if you can't get the throttles to line up by doing this adjustment, disconnect the throttle cable on the other engine and screw the cable connector counter clockwise. takes a little of trial and error, but you should have them dialed in within a few tries. BTW, while you are at it, take the cover of the binnacle mount and tighten up the friction adjustment screw. You can tighten the screws quite a bit without affecting how hard it is to push the throttles, and if you do this, the throttles will not back off when you let go of them.
