A strange thing happened yesterday.. when leaving the boat, I always point the engines (Honda 225s) straight ahead, then tilt them up.
Most of the time they stay like that and the next day they are still pointing straight ahead, but sometimes they lean over to the side (both pointing the same direction)- up against the hull and against the dive ladder.
Yesterday, I got to the boat and the port engine was leaning toward port and the starboard engine was leaning toward starboard. When I lowered them and started the engine, you could tell they were not aligned correctly - maybe 45 degrees off. I only had a little steering - since one engine would hit it's limit when turning a little to port then the other would quickly hit the limit when turning the other way.
I was going to take it over to my dealer - figuring I could always steer with the throttles.. but after a few minutes, it corrected itself. They seem to be pointing pretty much to the correct place and the boat handles nicely.
Is this something to worry about? What is the correct way to aim the engines before tilting them up?
