Next boat opinions

Postby Greg Manning » Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:42 pm

To those with some seat time in the 270, 290 and 330 I have a question. Do I need to go to a 330 to feel a big improvement in ride from my current 270? Is the 290 enough of a better ride to justify going to it from a 270? I don't want to go into a 290 and wish I had gone to a 330. I think the 290 is a good choice if it is a big enough improvement over the 270 because it is easier to handle dockside, in my limited canal space, and I would assume more economical to run fuel wise. But, I can deal with the bigger fuel bill, purchase cost and size vs the 290 if that is the only way to get a justifiable better ride than what I am running now. I was pretty set on the 290 but the more I think it over the more I am beginning to think I should consider just going up to the 330. Any thoughts?

I think if you are contemplating the 33, you should probably get it and that way you'll never say what if or get 2 foot itice.

Width
270= 8'6" 450 hp
290= 9'6" 500
330= 10'6" 700 hp
290 and 330 require trailering permit, If you plan to haul it somewhere.
Have not ridden on the 290 and I don't no the cost and ride quality differences.
However we could tell a big difference between the 266SF and the 330TE.

there are some nice features in the 290,at least the one I saw at the last Miami show.

test ride both in the same conditions.

Looks like I will have time to test both. Apparently due to the economy and their floor plan finance company my regional WC dealer is not taking trade ins on new or used boats. I have neither the time nor inclination to actively sell my boat. So, I will either have to wait until things change for them or a buyer looking for a used version of my boat comes to the attention of WC (who are very helpful in that regard). Not sure if this is an industry wide thing or not....I will have to investigate that with some of the dealers of the V hulls I like. I would prefer to stay with WC but this does force me to weigh other options if I make a move anytime soon unless I want to potentially be without an offshore boat or own 2 for an unknown time. Sure the answer is to sell my boat and then buy but even with my vehicles and equipment I much prefer the easier transaction of trading with the dealer eliminating contact with a buyer before or after the sale. It is what it is...just have to decide how I will choose to deal with it. Don't see myself on the darkside but not being able to trade my boat does change things. I would guess this must be industry wide??? At least I am not in any real hurry now but in a few months I will be getting restless for a bigger platform.

Not that many used WC's on the market, I would try and sell it your self or give it to a broker. You will probably get far more than they will ever give you in trade.

I would list it on HT and Craig'sList, not sure if you could list it on this forum?

I would also think that your WC dealer could help find a buyer since it would net the sale of a new boat.

Can't list it here.

You will more than likely get more selling it yourself.

I put mine up for sale a couple wks ago thru about 8 diff. free classifieds. Nxt wk I'm going to have Robert (Broker your own boat) on THT list it thru his resources. He runs the add online till its sold for a one time reasonable price on over 20 sites including Boat trader and Boats.com which I have found to be the two most popular sites.

From what I can tell brokers are doing nothing more in the way of advertising then he is.

It a shame you can't list used WC's on this site, I spent a lot of time looking for mine and a central site would of been very helpful.

I ended up buy mine from someone who had traded-up to a 29. I did not have the budget for a new one but love my boat and have more than happy to tell people about it when they see it.

My point is that WC's are great boats. If the market for used WC is better served it will allow others to trade-up and grow the WC family.

I would imagine they are trying to avoid the negativity of a deal gone bad between two people.
