Ladder steps

Postby chuckd » Mon Jan 11, 2010 9:14 pm

Well, its too cold to dive and I'm working all week. So I thought I'd show my last project.

It all started when I was at the island this past summer and while walking forwards down the dive ladder, I slipped with my foot going back thru the step and I crushed my shin on said step...it wasn't pretty. It reminded me of the serrated razor blade pedals on the bikes we grew up with.

Anyway, the thin metal steps also seemed to hurt my arch/instep when walking up them with full dive gear on. So I asked a buddy diver who owns a water cutter/plasma cutter if he could cut me some starboard treads. He did, I bolted them on...and they are awesome.

The pics show them before and after. And including some fish porn, all spearfished.

I was going to put one on the third rung, but it is narrow with a decent radius. Its wider and round, a little easier on the feet.
