290 TE... a beauty

12-06-08 My wife and I pulled into Town Creek after lunch. We went around to the fuel docks, and sitting in the water was a new yellow and white 290 TE. I couldn't get tied up fast enough. The bow sits noticeable higher than my 270 TE, and from the side it really looks aggressive. The helm...... in my opionion is a tremendous improvement. With the curved glass windshield, w/ washer and wiper, this will give excellent vision from rain or salt spray. No curtains, aluminum posts, and all the ginger bread work to wash around up front, it will probobly save 15 min. at the end of the day. The new beam, leaning post with the battries in it are easy to access, back rests, electrical wiring, rod storage, live well, ect, ect. they have really added some nice and usable features. We spent 45 min. looking it over, There is no "perfect" boat, and, yes I would make some changes, but if you like your present TE..... wait til you see this one. Lisa said take it out........
but we where afraid.... We are going back for Christmas and New Years, if it's not sold maybe we'll take it out then.

It is hard to tell from the pictures....do you think it is much bigger than your 270 TE. Does the 1' longer and 1' wider translate into a boat that feels and looks bigger than the 270?

Greg-
I've had the same thoughts about the size of the 290 versus the 270.

On a square footage basis, figuring the boat as a rectangle, LOA x Beam, the 290 is about 15 percent bigger than the 270. Think about the 25 ft. Parkers (25 x 9.5) versus the 23 ft. Parkers (23 x 8.5). The 25 seems to dwarf the 23. Also, with the relatively thin transom and the fish boxes in the floor, the cockpit on the WC290 looks huge. I've always like the transom fishbox on my 230SF, but I've got to admit that the floor boxes are an efficient use of space. I also like the shorter reach over the engines on the 290 versus the SF models.

I can't wait to take a ride on the 290. I'll probably never get a 33 WC, due to the my docking situation and the fact that I like to retain the ability to trailer occasionally, so the 290 will probably be the ultimate WC for me. If the 290 has more space than the 270, and handles better due to the wider beam, it ought to be a home run for WC. Sounds like a good excuse for a winter-time ride over to Town Creek......

I have to agree...I need to ride one and just see. I should just go for the 33 but like you it could be just too big. By the numbers it just doesn't seem like enough to get me to buy a new boat but the layout and new designed hull may change my mind.

I havn't ridden one but I have seen the 2 side x side in the water and the 29 almost dwarfs the 27. One foot in beam makes a heck of a lot of difference, I think if our 266/270 had another foot in the beam they'd handle like a totally different boat.

It is a totally differnt animal ,i had one290 dc out in NJ and it is like day and night . I do not belive the ride of the dc is going to be much different than the 290 CC. You can have beam seas without feeling the effectcs of it ,also rides far better on following seas .The configuration of this boat makes it almost perfect 3 times the length by 1 the width. Well worth taking on a sea trial , large enough to go far ,but small enough to trailer if you want to do it.
