Re: Water in the Bilge Using Armstrong Deck Plates

My boat doesn't have that type of Armstrong deck plate so I don't know what the underside of them looks like. That said, I had a similar problem with a "screw-in" deck plate on my old boat. I solved it with an O-ring from a pool supply store. Most pool pumps require a large O-ring to seal ...

Re: Corrosion Protection for Terminals in Bilge

I've had great luck with CorrosionX HD spray. Stays put, impervious to water, no corrosion, no hassle.

Re: What is the best protection for storing a 290 DC outside

I recommend a full mooring cover. I will try to get you a photo but here's a description of what we did... our cover follows a line about 12" below the gunwale all the way around. It covers both engines with a bungee that passes under the cavitation plate on each engine. The cover is suspended ...

Gelcoat Color for 2008 290DC?

Need a small gelcoat repair on my 2008 290DC. The hull color is the off-white (100%). Is there a specific color or other info that I can provide to the repair guy to ensure an exact match?

Re: let's talk milage

My 2008 290DC gets a consistent 1.5 MPG at 4150 and 30-31 MPH with 4 passengers, gear, and full tanks of fuel and water. That's best cruise, at least for my boat. On a calm day with 1/2 fuel and wind at my back going downhill I'll sometimes see 1.6. Although many advise trimming the engines out and ...

Re: Auto Pilot for 27 SC ?

I was an early adopter of Garmin's rework of the TR-1 Gladiator (yes, Garmin bought Gladiator and they still sell the old version). The new version is called the GHP-10 Marine Autopilot system and it is simply awesome. You can find info at https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=228&pID=13192 I ...

Re: Transducer Mounting

Based upon the advice of others on this forum I abandoned my plan to install a thru-hull transducer and instead installed an Airmar M260 In Hull. This is a powerful transducer that is working perfectly with my Garmin GSD22 Digital Sonar. I get a solid bottom reading at 30 knots in 100' of water. The...

290 DC Autopilot Installation?

I just received the Garmin GHP 10 Autopilot (their new version of the TR-1 Gladiator). Could one of you at the factory please tell me where you typically mount the pump, ECU, and CCU when you've installed the TR-1 on a 290DC? I'm having a hard time coming up with a clean install that accommodates th...

Re: New 290DC Over-Propped

AskHarry. 5400 is about 500 rpm low. Ideal is 5900-6000, but your cruise mpg may not change if you go to 3x16x20. There are lots of factors that enter the best cruise mpg. Just read the various OB mfgs test.Try some other rpms like 3800and 4200. Reread WCC test data NOTES about no electronics, no g...

New 290DC Over-Propped

My new 290 DC with twin DF250's is not performing up to the standards shown on your site. With 180 gallons of fuel, 80% water tank but NOTHING else on boat (except me) I am maxing at 45MPH, 5400 RPM WOT and at best 1.5MPG, 4000 RPM at 29 to 33 MPH in a flat calm or light chop. I've trimmed the outbo...
